Spring 2017
Core Studio II
San Antonio College
Professor Dwayne Bohuslav
Site: San Antonio, Texas
Software: Rhino, Illustrator
The design studio consisting of 12 students, including myself, selected one element from our matrix selection. The studio was then divided into two groups, “orthogonal” and “random.” I represented “net” for the “random” group.
With the help of Professor Dwayne Bohuslav, the studio and I, strategically combined each element in Rhino. We then merged both groups’ comprehensive designs and placed them underneath a structural pavilion to realize a life-size installation.
A large-scale model constructed out of corrugated plastic and bent aluminum was built and displayed in downtown San Antonio for the 2017 AIA San Antonio Beaux Arts Ball.

How can we make a space that fits the place? In Baker Park, we want to make a space that invites rest in the day or a natural pause in play. The frame is a shape that functions to focus a viewer’s or user’s attention both inwards and outwards. In one direction, the frame contains a scene within Aurora’s landscape for a viewer. In the other direction, the viewer inhabits the frame, the tableau itself.
Framed Tableaus couples the contemporary use of metal with the soft, natural feel of wood. We aim to inspire thoughts about the structure - the structure of our pavilions, the structure of relationships, the structure of empathy. Shade provides shelter from the summer sun while we have composed colors to radiate warmth through the Colorado winter. We have chosen an elemental palette of red, yellow, and blue for our simple forms. These colors set a simple playful tone without distracting from the surrounding environment.
